Where We Were Today

Oh it is a rare day when Jim will spend a Saturday in the woods doing one of the activities I love best. Today was a rare day. He joined me for a strenuous (and so amazingly rewarding) snowshoe on the Appalachian Trail. Since the road had not been plowed out, we had to walk in to the trailhead; this also ensured we would have the trail to ourselves. We did. Of course the trail was unbroken, so we had a lot of work to do. I was the girl in the front most of the day (behind, walking in a broken trail, is exponentially easier) because I am the one who dragged him there and I am the one who thrives on physical work. I love pushing my body through pain, knowing I am working really hard and doing my body such a service. I know it is crazy, but I love my crazy.

The woods were off the hook beautiful today. At one point, windy as it was, sweating like a fool, I stripped down to a tank top. It only lasted about 1/2 hour, but still... We stopped at the shelter on the way down and I read the log. I love reading the thru-hikers' awe of Maine. They love it. They appreciate it. Every time I read an entry where a hiker is thankful for the beauty of Maine, I get emotional. Maine is where it is at. Aw yeah. Just look below.

I am so thankful for the time in the woods today. I love love love the Maine woods.
