Remember how I said I wanted one more dumping snowstorm before Winter pulled away? Must be in the stars, because it came and it was big. We got a lot of snow in Farmington (Jim worked in Peru yesterday and said that Dixfield/Peru got a lot less). I will take it! I spent the morning steaming through tons of schoolwork - lots of grading. I have been putting off my AP folder and now, it is done. I worked from 10-4 on schoolwork and knew I would ski at 4:00. It was AWESOME to be out on the Gauge and KNOW no snowmobiles would be by. Even though it was HARD work (seriously, this snow has so much water content, it was like pushing through sand - it was compressing at my boot and shin level - I just "whumped" through it) the pleasure of knowing I was the only crazy out there was divine. The woods were beautiful and the dogs were stoked. I love snow so much - and I could not love Nordic skiing more. I was so thankful that I sacrificed my clothes iron (it needed to be replaced anyway) for a waxing iron. Last week after a warm, wet ski, I brought my skis inside, let them dry and come up to house temperature then laid them across my washer and dryer and hot-waxed them with pink Swix wax. A little scrape (oh yeah - I gave them a metal scraper first to get rid of the oxidized base) and they are like new. I had no clumping yesterday. If I had, I would not have been able to ski. I would have had to clomp. The wax worked.
Since I got what I asked for in this case, I am going to put it out there that I REALLY hope Mainer Day tomorrow is not windy and that Saddleback is NOT on wind hold. Please please please, I want to get this voucher used and enjoy that lovely 4000 footer again.
And to all of you who are over snow, I pledge to you, I will no longer actively hope, pray and plead for more snow. I got the one I wanted; I am satisfied. You will not hear me complain if another storm comes our way, but I will not cheer and congratulate Mother Nature if Tuesday's disturbance comes in the form of more snow.

The track I kicked in on The Gauge. Pretty freaking sweet.

The dogs - loving it.

Luna Moona - it was a little deep for her - but she did it. She is in god shape - at nearly 13 years old, she is still rocking Winter in style. Love her so much.
