Love time in the woods alone with my dogs. Hiked Speckled a couple of Sunday afternoons ago. Saw a bear, a rabbit and a mom turkey with her babies. Pretty eventful out in the woods of Peru.
When she finds water, she gets in it - muddy or not.
Two weekends ago (the 13/14, etc.) I volunteered at the Carrabassett Back-Country Challenge again. It is an incredible event. I love being around all those fit, focused, committed mountain bikers. This year we had an ex-Olympian competing: Tinker Juarez. He was incredible - won it no problem. And he was worried about the wet (he is from Southern CA and bikes mostly in desert areas). He was cute, he told us, "When I got to the lake, " (we call it the beaver dam) "I didn't know what to do." He must have done it right because he slayed the competition.
I got a pre-race weekend sprint up Mt. Blue in Weld. It was...you guessed it -- humid as could be. But good for the dogs, good for me. I SWEAR Phoenix was with me; he is just not nearly as photogenic.
Humid, hazy air. It has been unreal this summer. Those poor thru-hikers. I think of them all the time.

Hi. Tinker is a LEGEND! How cool that he came upta Maine to race! My friend Alex is a nut-job mtn. bike racer and had Tinker in sight at last years Butte 100 race towards the end, but took a wrong turn and lost 15 minutes! He was so bummed- to have the opportunity to actually RACE Tinker at the end of a 100 mile race and to blow it by missing a turn was crushing... I am going on a 50 miler this coming weekend with some buddies- all back country and 99% single track- very remote, but very good trail. I don't know that i have ridden that far on my bike before- hope I am up for it- feeling pretty strong this year so far. Take care, see you soon...
