Trillium from South to North

One of the best things about heading to NC over April Break is how everything is getting to be Springlike down there just about two weeks before we get Springlike up here. It gives us hope (and lets us ride our bikes).

Below is a trillium I saw on my first walk of the trip to NC -- taken on April 17th

And here is a BUNCH of trillium (click on the photo to see it large so you can see just how much I am talking about here) about three weeks later - taken in Maine - May 10th

This past Saturday, despite the drizzle and gray, I hiked the 5 miles my students will be hiking with me this Friday. I had never done this section of the AT and wanted to know what to expect. There was still snow : ) And I saw this little guy, just beginning to think about opening. I guess that is one difference between Rangeley and Farmington -- taken in Maine on May 14th

I hope I see it when I walk by this Friday and Saturday -- maybe it will be showing its flower.
