Late Winter Dump

Sweet glorious snow -- oh how I love thee. After tapping trees all day Wednesday in the soft sun of late winter the clouds began to float in and pile up. By 9pm, while Jim and I babysat Stetson, we watched the first flakes fall -- and fall and fall some more. It snowed HARD all day on Thursday -- the kind of wet big flakes that pile up fast. Jim and I went for a snowshoe at around 2 or so and it still was dumping hard. As the picture shows, the visibility was limited and the trees were laden.

We walked for about an hour on this loop that I put together that is quite climby. Jim's displeasure with the vertical gain was both palpable and audible. I worried that he would never go with me again. I don't completely understand it -- on such a short stint that was his idea -- why he took away some of the pleasure in it for me and for him. I tried not to let him -- or let myself -- be dragged down by it -- and I wasn't really. The video below is just a minute and a few seconds of my trek through the snowy woods. There is a tree on the right that I have to go out and around now -- but in the summer I can ride Taco or Dessie under that tree -- that is how much snow is out there in the woods above the fields. Sweet deep snow.

(The video and the above two pics are mine -- the two at the top and the one of the Yellow Birch and the stone wall are Jim's.)
