Finally the insurance saga is over. Today I drove to Jennifer Krekel's office and picked up my fat (in my opinion - in the insurance company's opinion - meager) check. It was more than a year ago that I was hit by a man driving a van with an inoperable blinker. Since then the insurance companies have fought it out in court (my insurance company won), the other insurance company only offered me half my damages, I refused, they said get a lawyer and then I asked Jennifer to help me out. All she had to do was send a letter to them and claim I was suing and presto, suddenly they are sending me my full check amount. Whatever. It is done. She was generous, only charging me $50 -- I also bought her a $50 GC for Brian's Bistro to thank her. I am heartened by her and disheartened by the insurance companies. They are a necessary evil, unfortunately. I need to figure out coverage for my new car (new to me) and I was thinking today that even though I only had liability, it worked out this last time. Will it again? I wonder. Upon entering the Bistro to purchase my GC, I found Jess working on her computer at the bar and one of my favorite regulars, Dave, sitting there too. He promptly left his side of the bar (he is a serious creature of habit and so this move is genuinely flattering) and came to sit with Jess and me. It was fun to be on his side of the bar, not wearing khakis, black top and apron. I had planned a run, but after the one glass of wine, I decided to buy a bottle of wine on my way home and head straight to Cheri's for our traditional Thursday night festivities. I will run tomorrow.
Excellent weekend planned -- with Alison, Barry and Jim -- a snowshoe up Little Bigelow on Sunday with Alison and Stacey. So looking forward to that and everything in between. Things are good. I hope to take lots of pics this weekend and hope my digital camera will embrace the cold (it is supposed to be chilly on Sunday) and keep working. Three weeks 'til February Vacation. I LOVE WINTER! Going to see Katahdin and ski in Baxter over February Break. Maine is so where it is at.
