Winter Solstice 2015

I took a personal day.  And I will from here on out.  This day has always been sacred to me, and now that I have Abram, I have begun a tradition that I will continue.  I told him that some solstices would be spent alpine skiing on a dumping day.

For this one my only plan was to see the sunrise and the sunset and spend as much time as I could outside.  He woke at 6:30 (sunrise was around 7) so I changed his diaper, bundled him up with his PJs still on and then headed out the door and up the hill into the upper pasture.

What the sunrise was doing as we left the house.

Abram, in his Christmas PJs, walking through the gate of the stone wall - just trucking along happily.

I sat on the ground and let him explore.

Watching the sunrise with his Mama behind him.  After we sat and looked for awhile (he eventually came and sat on my legs and just hung out) we went back to the house for breakfast.  From there we geared up and drove the logging road to Speckled.  To be able to drive out there on December 21st is nuts - but the Volvo made it in style.

Bundled and ready to go.  He had been recovering from a pretty bad cold, so he was not his usual smiling self.

Old Speck and the Bald Pates.  After the hike Abram slept in the car for a long while.  For sunset we went for a walk around the farm.  It was a very dull, overcast sunset so no photos of that.  It was a beautiful day spent intentionally and with Mother Nature.
