Hiking Table

Table Rock's trailhead is in Teton Canyon. We started at 7,000 feet (in elevation) and ended at 11,000 feet -- at the summit. It is a little challenging -- although, not that bad. It is long -- about 12 miles -- and there is 4,000' of elevation gain, but the switchbacks allow for a steady and rhythmic pace. I have only hiked it one other time before this last one; it was good to be back on top.

The trail, near the canyon, was covered in wildflowers and green green grass. (Unfortunately, I had the camera and Jim did not -- he asked for it quite a while after the wildflowers, so there are no real pics of "action" in the meadows and wildflowers). It was a really pretty hike. I honestly was so happy to be hiking it. I so appreciate how mountains maintain. Towns may change and grow, people may come and go, but the terrain, in one's lifetime, remains a constant.

Luna and I on the way toward the real elevation gain.

This was lunch rock -- we ate here before we really started to climb. You can see the trail, behind me, and then it switchbacks up the side of the mountain. The snow line at the top of the picture was destination one of many.

On top of destination one -- now that snowline is on the left of me -- no longer above me (and Luna).

That is Table Mountain -- to the right -- looks like a table. Those are the Tetons behind it. We still had a ways to go.

And we made it -- Jim relaxing and reclining at the top. The last 1,000 feet were intense -- really challenging.

The Grand Teton from Table.

On the way back down now -- good view of the switchbacks that climb up the side of the mountain and allow the elevation gain.

Near the bottom -- nearish the car -- the trail and the wildflowers.

Indian Paintbrush and Lupine

This was one of the best days of the trip for me.

  1. Nice to learn and see your perfect day. Thankful to share in it because old Bammy would need a month to get to the summit. The pictures are awesome.
