Cape Cod for the first few days of the new year -- forgot my camera -- unfortunately. Heading for home tomorrow. Tonight, after rounds of card games (Pounce!) and lots of cocktails, we are gathered in the living room around two boys with guitars and one with a mandolin. People are singing and shaking baby rattles to participate. Two babies sleep in the other room and some here have come from far away. Rich is here from Portland, OR and Ben and Jess are here from Indiana. Luna is curled in a dog-ball in the middle of the floor, and I wonder if she remembers being a puppy when this type of gathering was much more frequent. She seems to remember -- very comfortable here among these people. They are really good people, perhaps that is why she is so contented.
A beautiful walk this morning, down a trail I ran religiously when I lived here. The ocean was as it always is, reaching forever. Gray green blue and beginning to freeze.
Looking forward to heading to Maine tomorrow, but honestly not looking forward to heading back to work on Monday. Once Monday is under the belt, all will be well, but it is tough to head back. Love the time off. Love hiking and skiing with friends. And I love John Prine. And love Jim for many reasons but right now I love him for loving John Prine.
